Marvel finally puts women heroes up front

Marvel has announced they're making their first all-women Avengers team, and I'm stoked.

Lately Marvel has been doing well in the eyes of women and feminist comic book readers lately by stepping up their female comic game.

Let me start by saying that it's still not enough and we need more female protagonists that are worth reading about, but that the direction Marvel i going in is a good one. Marvel has a line of women characters that actually act like women and are drawn like human beings.

There's Carol Danvers, formerly Ms. Marvel, moving up the ranks to take her rightful place as the new Captain Marvel. She's even getting a film in 2018.

Taking over for Ms. Marvel is Kamala Khan, the first Muslim character to have her own comic.

Black Widow, popular in the Iron Man films and Avengers for having purpose and personality beyond that of the male protagonist.

We have our new Thor, a female! Getting her own comic series.

And now we'll have this women-only Avenger team, and honestly, it feels really great.

It's not that I only want to read about female protagonists, or want to ostracize males from my "strong female character" only comics, but... really, it's nice to have a girls-only club, in a way. Especially as a main series! The Avengers! It's wonderful.

I think there are a lot of women readers out there who feel the same. We don't only want the girls-only, no boys allowed, treatment for our comics, and we don't think that it'll only be women reading about these characters either. But after being on the outside of the boys-only clubs for so long, it's going to be nice having our own little club to go to.

Now we can just hope and pray the characters are well-written. Fingers crossed, everyone.
